Fun Learning Activity Ideas For Toddlers & Preschoolers (2 - 3 Years) At Home (VLOG)

Ask a mother, she would agree how important it is to keep young kids (toddlers & preschoolers) engaged at home, especially 2 to 3 year olds ;) With the rainy season around, it is all the more necessary to have some activities for them indoor at home to reduce screen time. Being a Montessori mom & an early learning enthusiast, I set up my son's shelf activities at least once a month. Some of them are DIY too.

Here are some ideas that you can borrow from the current shelf that I have set up for my son. He is 28 months (2.4 years) old right now & I am homeschooling him currently. Early learning has become my passion after my son was born.

Here is the video of his current shelf and I have explained all the activities in detail. This kind of set up helps to keep my son screen-free. They are fun learning activities that we all can do at home.

I usually try to cover various areas (as suggested by Montessori) when I set up the activities like fine motor, logic, practical life, sensorial, language, math, open-ended play etc. But I do not necessarily have all of them and try to follow my child's interests always. In past, I have tried to include every area in principle and then my son would not touch some of the activities at all. There are so many ideas floating around on the net, specially pinterest, that it is so easy to get overwhelmed. So it is best to stick to what you think your child would like & what would suits his skill set. Every child is different & so are their interests & skill set at a given age.

Here are few glimpses of our setup in pics, if you do not prefer a video.

An Ultimate Guide To Buy From Aliexpress.com For Kids & My Shopping List Of Educational Toys For Kids

Let's face it.

Some kid's products from China are really enticing, because of their super cheap pricing, more so when they are being sourced directly from China with no mediators to eat up the margins.

That is AliExpress.com for you

A mega online store from China that ships worldwide! It has tons of different sellers selling everything under the sun (just like Amazon). For those who don't know, I'm based in India.
I have shopped quite some stuff from AliExpress for my son and unlike many buyers that I have come across in India, I have never faced an issue where I had thought my money was wasted. Note that this does not mean that I haven't received products in bad shape or quality, or sometimes not received at all. In those cases, I have got money refunds too.

Here is a quick guide while shopping from this giant

  • This is what I do when I search and browse the site. Hope this makes sense to you too. I type in the keyword in the search box that I need (for example - Montessori). With so many search results, I see the exact name of the item I want (say - knobbed cylinders) & type it again in the search box. Then with the exact search results of different sellers of the product I need, I sort the results from price low to high. Trust me there are huge price differences among different sellers for the same product. I choose a seller for my item (knobbed cylinders in this case) based on the price, the number of orders (it is shown alongside the product on the product page) and customer reviews.

  • Basically when you buy a product, you are also given a purchase protection period of around 45 days (depends on an individual basis too). You can access and check when it is ending in your order details. What it means is in those 45 days, the payment will not be released by AliExpress to the seller. In that period, you can raise disputes to your orders if there is a need.

  • It becomes easier to browse and shop when the prices are shown in your own currency so that you don't spend an extra minute every time to do the conversion and decide whether it is worth it or not. I have set my currency to INR in my account settings in my login.

  • Once you receive your order, you are supposed to go to your orders tab and mark the order as received. Please do this positively and be a responsible and honest buyer. It is even better to give feedback to your order experience.

Here are some FAQs that I get from fellow parents all the time

Instead of replying them individually, it's better to put them here all at once ;)

How long does it take the item to reach India?
It takes around 30-60 days to reach India on an average. And I believe it is the same for almost all the countries. I have had cases when I did not get the item within the purchase protection period. The key here is to make sure that the purchase protection does not end before your order arrives. You will be getting an email notification when your purchase protection for a particular order is about to expire. If you haven't received the product, go ahead and raise a dispute for that order and ask the seller to extend the purchase protection and/or make a full/partial refund. That way your money will be safe. If you have already received that order then mark the order as received so that the payment can be released to the seller. We as buyers need to be very honest here. When a dispute is raised, usually the sellers negotiate over messages and ask us to wait for more days till the order arrives and they extend the purchase protection meanwhile. If you think it is no longer feasible for you to receive the order at later dates, you can reply that you need a refund. Note that every product description would have the general shipping timelines, so make your choice accordingly. Do not expect the item to be delivered as quickly as Amazon. I usually order stuff in advance, like what my son would need a couple of months down the line. So even when they are delayed, I'm okay about that.

Is it safe to buy from AliExpress?
Yes, it is safe as long as you have the purchase protection active. As mentioned above, try to extend it by raising a dispute or sending a message to the seller to extend it if you haven't received the order yet. Sellers respond to the messages pretty quickly.

What are the shipping charges?
There are tons of sellers and products on the site. Every product has different shipping charges. But most of the products are with free shipping and it is clearly mentioned in every product description. There are no hidden charges or conditions apply stuff!

Are there any customs fees?
No. I have ordered more than 20 items from the site with free shipping and never paid any customs.

Would you recommend buying stuff from there?
Depends on what you are buying. I have mostly bought educational materials but anything you buy, make sure to read the product description very nicely to avoid shocks and surprises. Also, do check the reviews of the product and that particular seller before buying it. Long back, I had bought a t-shirt for my son and I was not happy with the quality at all. I raised a dispute & asked for a partial refund and they did.

Which seller is good?
I don't search by a seller, so I don't have any particular recommendation. I just search an item with its keyword. With so many products and sellers, the same product is often sold by multiple sellers. You can decide upon a seller by reading it's reviews easily.

How to choose a seller?
By reviews.

Is it suitable to buy many items at a time or first try buying one and if successful in receiving it then go ahead with more?
If you are buying from AliExpress for the first time, then, of course, you will not spend much on your first buy ;) But technically it doesn't make a difference if you buy all at once or separately because the sellers might be different so your shipments will obviously be separate. So it is as good as buying separately at different points in time. Even if the seller is the same for all the products, it is a wise decision to buy all at once, assuming you have found trust in the payment system. Also, it is very much possible that the same product might be out of stock or available at a different price when you decide to buy it next.

What are the payment options?
Any credit or debit card, visa, master card, American Express etc. Your card will be charged in USD.

How do you decide what to buy when?
I do my research and buy stuff well in advance so that shipping delays and misplaced parcels don't bother me. I also don't keep many expectations that the order will arrive certainly. Basically, I don't order important/urgent/must-have stuff from there. If it arrives, it's good otherwise I will anyways get my money refunded. But 95% of the time, the item has been eventually delivered to me.

What all have you bought for your child?
I'm listing some of the previous orders that I have found useful, worth the penny and worth the wait. Many products are not available now on the links that I have in my order history, so had to skip mentioning those here. Some prices must have been changed too now.

Is this a sponsored post?
Haha, no. I'm not getting any commission or affiliates fees here. I'm just gathering some good karma! :D

I have some more doubts.
Please go ahead and share them as comments. If I think the questions are legitimate ;) and I'm eligible to answer, I still certainly answer and also edit this post to add the new questions. It will help more people like you! So you get to earn some good-karma brownies too ;)

I hope you found this post useful.

Montessori Inspired Practical Life Activity & Importance - Baking With Toddlers (VLOG)

montessori practical life toddler baking

What is Practical Life & Practical Life Activities In A Montessori Environment For Toddlers?

Practical : means basic, useful, purposeful
Life : means the way of living

Practical life exercises are exercises for the child to learn how to do daily routine chores & activities in a purposeful way.

Children, specially toddlers & kindergartners are naturally interested in daily chores. Hence, Dr. Montessori began to use practical life exercises to allow the child to do activities of daily life & therefore adjust himself in his culture & society.

All the materials & supplies of practical life activities should be real, familiar to the child, breakable (if applicable) & functional.

My 2.4 year old son baked a brownie for his dad to celebrate Father's day  Why should girls have all the fun in the kitchen! Here is my son baking a brownie! It is such a pleasure to see such young kids working in the kitchen. Watch the video to experience it :)

Palmer's India Products Review

Being a Momstar has its own perks ;) I received this Palmer's hamper from Babychakra to review.

Here is my quick review of these products. The detailed description of these products can be found on the Amazon links shared below. You can also buy these products from Babychakra HERE.

The baby wash is superb. I used it when I was traveling & it worked like a charm. Nothing harsh, very mildly fragranced and it can be used as a shampoo too. It left my toddler's skin & hair soft.

I loved the cocoa butter stretch marks cream a lot. I am 2 years postpartum so not sure those remaning stretch marks that I have will even go away now but the cream in itself if so mild & gets absorbed super quickly into the skin. The smell is so so good & pure, I love coffee so I had to love its smell.

I have not used the baby bottom cream because we have passed the stage of diaper rashes, my son is toilet trained now :) But the description on the cover of the product looks good!

The skin therapy oil is awesome too! It is absolutely non-greasy & immensely moisturizing.

All in all, the quality of the products is very good. I would certainly recommend them.

Bloggers Event By Babychakra - Johnson & Johnson Is Still #BestForBaby

As most of you know, I have been associated with Babychakra for quite some time now! I have been contributing articles on early learning, parenting & Montessori to this awesome portal for parents that has evolved so fast & beautifully in the last few months.

About Babychakra

BabyChakra is the most trusted platform for parents in India. Whether you are looking to connect with other mothers, experts or childcare services, BabyChakra guarantees happier, healthier mothers and kids. BabyChakra is an award winning venture that revolutionizes how parents discover healthcare and education for their families. They are the one platform that brings all the help and support a new parents needs to have in one place:

  • They have the largest, most active community of young parents in India.
  • They have the top Experts in India on BabyChakra.
  • The largest base of maternity & childcare services & reviews on them are on BabyChakra.
  • They have the most comprehensive base of articles with DIY tips, recipes and developmental milestones.

Babychakra has its presence in various cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore but Pune (where I am based) is still on their cards to spread its wings. But luckily I got this opportunity to meet Babychakra team with whom I have been working online in this great event that they organized in association with Johnson & Johnson, a brand that has been in the child care arena since ages! When I got a call from Babychakra that they are going to have an event in Pune & I am the first person (a mommy blogger) that came to their mind to invite, it just made my day :) I counted days literally to be a part of the event because I knew if Babychakra is organizing something, it has to be a fun-filled event.

Little did I know that Johnson & Johnson as well, will leave a significant mark on me as a mother & an individual after the event. We did not know the agenda of this event beforehand but we knew it is going to be a moms & kids meet.

About The Event

The event started in the morning at 10 AM with the registrations. I was so excited to meet the Babychakra team in person, including the CEO & Founder Naiyya Saggi. What a lovely lady she is - elegant, soft spoken & down to earth. The hall was gradually full with moms like me, moms of infants, toddlers & some moms of elder kids too. It was such a warm ambiance that all of us moms connected to each other so quickly, many of the moms were totally stranger to me but the motherhood instinct in all of us made us connect beautifully while we had a nice cup of tea/coffee together outside the hall.

The best part of the event was there was a play area set up for toddlers right in the hall itself where our little ones were so busy playing & we moms could actually pay attention to what the event was all about :)

A post shared by Kuhoo Gupta (@kuhoogupta) on

The event began with the introduction of Deepali Agarwal, the marketing manager at Johnson & Johnson. She is a brilliant speaker & kept us all awake & alive with her witty remarks amidst serious discussions. The agenda of the event became clearer as we moved ahead. Deepali helped us understand a lot of myths that exist around baby care products, we saw a couple of videos by experts explaining important gyaan, there were some quizzes too around Johnson & Johnson products and parenting in general.

A post shared by Kuhoo Gupta (@kuhoogupta) on

Then some real fun part started, we were divided into teams & were given some DIY experiments to do that actually demonstrated us how Johnson & Johnson products fare as compared to other brands.

Wipes experiment - We were asked to squeeze out water through a syringe in a test tube from a baby wipe and compare it with another brand.

Testing pH Levels with Johnson Baby Wash - We saw how the baby wash fared well in hard water as well using litmus papers.

Testing Brand New Launched Baby Detergent - This event also marked a launch of Johnson's baby detergent & we used couple of sauces & colors to spoil a cloth & then wash it using this new detergent.

At the end, surprisingly our team won the contest, which means we were able to complete the experiments ahead in time!!! We got a gift hamper from Neutrogena - a beautiful one, yayyy!

A post shared by Kuhoo Gupta (@kuhoogupta) on

Then the session was open for Q&A. Deepali was kind enough to take each & every question in a very mature & convincing way. The best part was that her answers had a scientific reason behind & the facts were not at all misguiding! The most crucial questions were around the lawsuit that was filed against Johnson brand about baby powder causing ovarian cancer. Deepali threw light on how & why the brand lost that case but won similar cases three times too. We all got to know how the products of Johnson are still #bestforbaby & how the brand has gotten over the controversy. Many moms, including me, who were skeptical about the brand products are now assured that Johnson is still as pure as it was when we were kids!

After that, there were Facebook Live sessions by we moms, Babychakra & Johnson guys! It was so much fun. You can go ahead & watch all the fun on Johnson Facebook Page HERE.

You can also check out my Instagram, Twitter & Facebook accounts where I posted about the event LIVE :)

The event was wrapped up by a wonderful lunch where we enjoyed networking with fellow moms & found ourselves feeding our kids some yummy kids friendly dishes too! The organizers had thought it off so well that they included special items for kids with very less spices.

We also got hampers & goodies from Babychakra & Johnson & Johnson at the end! My toddler was so eager to explore them & the nest day he demanded to use Johnson & Johnson shampoo, soap & oil for his bath :) And honestly I am loving their shampoo! It leaves my son's hair so soft & silky.

We also got gift voucher from Babychakra to shop from, if you do not know it yet, Babychakra now has an exclusive shop section that has some interesting items to pick. Since currently I am deep into parentingearly learning & Montessori (as you must have inferred by now from my blog), I ordered educational kit from their shop. It will reach me soon & my toddler is already questioning, what is coming in the parcel!!!

All in all, a brilliant day out for moms & kids, where I got to meet so many of my virtual friends in person for the first time, I got to meet the team of Babychakra, my son had a gala time in the play area & most importantly, we all got to know so much more about Johnson & Johnson brand & that it still is as pure & trustable as it was years ago, as they say, it is #bestforbaby !!!

I thank the entire team of Babychakra & Johnson for organizing such a memorable event for we moms & kids :)
