Cloud Meditation For Kids & Adults - Healing & Relaxation

Let us revisit this very old and popular form of meditation that will give you healing and relaxation - CLOUD MEDITATION. This is a great tool to develop mindfulness and it can be practiced by kids and adults alike anywhere anytime, provided you can spot a cloud in the sky.

With monsoon everywhere in the country, lets practice this meditation when it is cloudy.
Its a simple meditation popularly known as “Cloud Meditation”.
You can do this even when it’s raining.
Follow these steps:

  1. The first thing you need to do is find a quiet place outside, away from people, where you will not be disturbed by anything. This could be in a park, on a hill, or at the beach. If this is not possible, sit on your porch or by a window, where you can see the sky.
  2. If you are outside, either sit down on a rock or bench, or lie down on the grass.
  3. Ensure to look at a cloud in the opposite direction of the sun, so that you don’t look at the sun.
  4. Now slowly take few deep breaths, and then relax your body.
  5. Look at the sky for some time, choose a cloud, and fix your attention on it.
  6. Notice the color of the cloud, its shape and size.
  7. Watch the cloud, and follow it movement as it drifts in the sky.
  8. Watch how the cloud changes its shape or dissolves in the sky.
  9. Keep watching the cloud calmly, while disregarding the other clouds.
  10. Just watch the cloud, without thinking about it, analyzing or commenting about what is happening. Whenever you discover that your attention has wandered away, bring it back to the cloud.

Duration for this meditation :10 minutes.
Benefits of this meditation :
It strengthens the concentration ability of mind, improves control of the attention, and increases calmness.
Let me know in the comments below your experience with this meditation.

Tutorial - Simple Breathing Meditation (Anapanasati) For Beginners To Do Anywhere

tutorial breathing meditation anapanasati buddhism

#SoulfulSaturdays is an attempt to put out weekly, simple to consume knowledge bits, help people understand the concepts of holistic living, spirituality, healing, meditation & the likes. In this article, let us see how to do a simple meditation based on your breath anywhere anytime. In Buddhist fraternity, it is also called Anapanasati Meditation.

There is much written & read about the benefits of meditation but not many people practice it actually. Partly because of less self motivation, partly because of wrong information, partly because they think meditation is for old & retired people, partly because they tried a meditation practice & could not keep up to it.

Click HERE to check out the details, testimonials & registration for our very popular 10 days ONLINE workshop on SELF HEALING & CHAKRA BALANCING.

Let me tell you there are many different ways one can meditate. There are many kinds of meditation practices and all of them can really help you in focus, awareness, emotional mental & physical wellness & much more. This is a very basic practice but it does wonders & can be practiced by seasoned meditators as well.

So let us dive into it straight but before that, promise me you will try this meditation today itself & share your experience with me in the comments below!

Place
You can choose any place you like - a quiet hall, a noisy train, sitting in an auto with honking sounds of the traffic, garden, bedroom, forest or whatever. The good news is if you are alive, you will have your much loved breath with you, and that is the only thing you need for this meditation.

Duration
You can start with just 5 minutes of practice. Set a timer in your mobile & you are ready to go. Once you are happy with 5 minutes, you can gradually increase the duration as per your convenience.

Posture
Sit upright with your spine straight. You can either sit on a chair with hanging legs or sit on the floor or yoga mat or even a chair with crosslegged. Put your hands anywhere you feel comfortable. It would be great to keep them in dhyaan mudra resting on your knees.

Steps
Close your eyes & just focus on your breath. Watch it go in & out, in & out, in & out. Keep your awareness JUST on the breath. Notice how the breath is passing through your nostrils & going up till your lungs. Notice how those vibrations are. Visualize that with every in-breath, you are breathing in positive energy & with every out-breath, you are pushing out negativity from your body. Keep the breaths deeper & longer.

Hey, one random thought of your child or your spouse or your workplace came hitting your head just now! Aaah you lost the focus on your breath!!! And you think, "oh I just cannot do this thing called meditation". Trust me, I have been there done that. And still face this sometimes. Do not resist the thought and just let the thought pass through your brain or heart. Become a watcher to that thought. Now that you have acknowledged the thought came in, resume back to focussing on your breath.

I have a bonus tip for you here! Try chanting "So" during in breath & "Hum" during out breath. SoHum is the universal sound of our breath. So this way, the chances of you being lost into other thoughts are lesser because you give your mind a concrete thing to chant while you breathe. You can chant it mentally or aloud.

And hey, you will soon hear your timer go tring tring. Did you just finish your meditation session? I hope your answer is yes :) If it is, tell me in the comments below what was your experience!

Benefits
Regulates BP, calms mind, reduces stress, anxiety, depression, improves focus, mental, emotional & physical well being and much more!

In Buddhist culture, this meditation is called Anapanasati - meaning mindfullness of breathing.

Six Tips On How To Take In More Oxygen Rich Air - Dr Vipin Gupta - #SoulfulSaturdays

holistic living healing oxygen rich air breathing life tips hacks

#SoulfulSaturdays is an attempt to put out weekly, simple to consume knowledge bits, help people understand the concepts of holistic living, spirituality, healing, meditation & the likes. Let us see how can we deal with low oxygen levels in the air & take in more oxygen in our bodies in urban setups. Read these simple to implement tips in this article & get rid of some health complications that can arise due to low oxygen levels in your body.

According to WHO, last year 70 lac people died of air pollution. Let us see today how we can breathe in more & more fresh oxygen rich air.

Apart from the dust particles & carbon in the air that cause cough, asthma & other respiratory issues, one more serious area of concern in urban setups is low content of oxygen in the air.

Daily requirement of oxygen per person per day is 550 litres. That translates to 11,000 litres of fresh air per person per day attributing to oxygen percentage in fresh air these days. If oxygen levels are low in the body, we feel tired, fatigue, suffocation & organ functioning is also affected badly.

So how can we deal with this? How can we surround ourselves with oxygen rich air in urban setups?

Here are some simple tips by Dr Vipin Gupta, a drug research scientist with Sehatvan -

  1. If you have AC at home then switch it on less & less often. Because if you switch on the AC, you will not open the windows often & fresh air will not fill up your home. Difference between the metabolism of cancer cells & normal cells is that cancel cells DO NOT need oxygen. So less oxygen in your homes means you are giving a suitable environment to cancerous cells to proliferate. So open up your windows more & more often!
  2. Declutter unwanted stuff at home to free up space. The more space your home has, the more fresh air can come in and the more oxygen you can get. Also, different materials emit fumes/vapors of different kinds. So let us lessen our exposure to such vapors also. I need to continue this decluttering exercise at home & I encourage you all to do the same!
  3. Buy less! Buy only when needed. The more things are manufactured on the planet, the more factories will contribute to air pollution.
  4. Leave less carbon footprint on the planet - use public transport. 1 litre of petrol or diesel uses 10,000 litres of air! We need to give ourselves more air and not the vehicles! So limit the use of vehicles whenever possible.
  5. Grow plants in your home - window sills, terrace, indoor - wherever, so that you get more & more oxygen! But DO NOT use pesticides or else you will undo all the good you have done by growing plants!
  6. Go for nature walks, treks, forest bath etc to get your jumbo dose of oxygen for your body.

This video by Dr Vipin Gupta covers it all in Hindi.

You might want to check out Sehatvan's YouTube channel as well for more such videos!

Hope you liked these tips & let me know in the comments below if you follow any of them already!

A Guilt Free Cake For Toddlers/Kids - Recipe

Cake in my house is always a hit! My mom is a pro in baking cakes. And this recipe of hers has been a favourite in my family & extended family. My son loves it too! I quickly converted my mom's original recipe to a healthier version so that I can give it my toddler happily without having to say "enough, now stop"!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED
  • Whole wheat flour – 1.5 cups (You can use maida or a mix of whole wheat flour & maida for a slightly unhealthy version of the cake)
  • Jaggery – ¾ cup (You can use sugar for a slightly unhealthy version of the cake)
  • Curd – 1 cup
  •  Refined oil – ½ cup
  • Essence (optional)
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  •  Baking soda – ½ tsp
  •  Oven or microwave
TIME REQUIRED FOR ACTIVITY PREPARATION – 20 Minutes

PROCEDURE
  • ·         Mix curd & Jaggery in a bowl
  • ·         Add baking powder & baking soda & let it sit for few minutes till the bubbles appear
  • ·         Add oil & essence at this stage if you want & mix
  • ·         Slowly add the flour & keep mixing it
  • ·         Mix it well with a spatula or with a blender. This is your cake batter
  • ·         Apply a thin coat of oil greasing on the baking container (I use Borosil glass containers for Microwave baking)
  • ·         Sprinkle some flour on the container
  • ·         Pour the cake batter into the container & put it in a preheated microwave or oven to bake
  • ·         For my microwave, I put it for some 8 to 9 minutes at 60 power setting. It may vary with the quantity you use & the microwave. Keep it for lesser time & keep checking if the cake is perfectly baked by inserting a greased knife in the middle of the cake in the container. If the knife comes out clean, the baking is complete
  • ·         Let it cool outside the microwave before you cut it

My Evergreen Green Tea Recipe

Green tea is the buzz word these days for its immense benefits for the body & soul. I have been consuming green tea for many years now & can pretty much not survive without it, well, I mean to say I feel something is missing if I do not drink my green tea every morning & after dinner. A simple google will tell you so many benefits of green tea. For me, it helped me in good digestion, weight loss, sugar control (gestational diabetes - during pregnancy), bloating during pregnancy, building immunity & it gives me an overall feel good factor.

Here is my own customized recipe of green tea. This recipe has been tried by many of my friends & family members, they love it! There were people who hated green tea before for its bland taste & now they swear by my recipe & enjoy it. Let me quickly share the recipe.

Ingredients
I am going to share the links from where you can buy this stuff

Procedure

  1. Put a bit more than 1 cup water to boil
  2. Add some grated ginger, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder, 1/4 teaspoon divya peya, 1/4 teaspoon lemongrass leaves & let it boil
  3. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes till all the ingredients leave their aroma in the water
  4. Put 1/4 teaspoon green tea, stir the vessel so that it mixes in water properly & switch off the gas.
  5. Cover the vessel with a lid & let it sit for 2-3 minutes
  6. Strain in a cup. Add few drops of lemon.
  7. You can add honey if you want, I do not like sweetened green tea.
Hope you found this useful. Do let me know if you have any questions/comments/feedback. Share with your friends, it will always benefit, so earn some good karma :)
